Precision agriculture is a modern and sustainable way to use technology to monitor and optimize production processes. It uses sensor technologies, satellite navigation and positioning technology. Radio modems are used in precision agriculture and machine guidance systems to transfer data accurately, reliably and in real time.
Many studies show that precision agriculture will lead to quantifiable gains. One of the latest studies was done by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), the American Soybean Association, CropLife America, and National Corn Growers Association. It presents the current achievements in the following way:
- 4% increase in productivity
- 7% more efficient fertilizer use
- 9% reduced herbicide use
- 6% decrease in fossil fuel use
- 6% decrease in water use
With a broader adoption of precision agriculture technologies there lies a significant potential for even greater achievements.
