NIS2 Directive & Your Networking Solutions Cybersecurity

NIS2 Directive (Directive (EU) 2022/2555) is a European Union regulation aimed at strengthening cybersecurity across member states. It replaced the original NIS Directive (Directive on Security of Network and Information Systems) by October 2024 and expanded its scope.

NIS2 Directive Requirements in Nutshell

  • Risk Management: Companies must mitigate risks by strengthening network infrastructure protection, supply chain security, and data encryption methods.
  • Broader Sectors Covered: NIS2 extends its coverage to more sectors, including energy, transport, banking, health, digital infrastructure, and public administration.
  • Uniform Cybersecurity Rules: Establishes minimum cybersecurity standards across all member states to reduce disparities in preparedness. Introduces tighter controls on supply chain security, incident response, and risk management.
  • Corporate Accountability: Corporate management must oversee and instruct employees to implement security measures and address cybersecurity risks.
  • Reporting Obligations: Essential and important entities must promptly report security incidents, adhering to specific deadlines like the 24-hour early warning.
  • Business Continuity: Companies must plan for major cyber incidents, including system recoveries and emergency procedures.
  • Supply Chain and Vendor Accountability: Mandates security measures not only for the organization but also for its supply chain and service providers. Introduces scrutiny of third-party services and software vendors.
  • Increased Regulatory Oversight: National authorities are empowered to monitor and enforce compliance. Includes provisions for penalties for non-compliance, which can include significant fines.
